Preparation: Basics and Unique Needs for Trip
• Passport: It will be required to enter the country; be sure it is NOT
expired.
• Currency exchange: The Colon is the official currency, but Dollars are
widely accepted. It would be smart to exchange a small amount for local
expenses.
• Language: The official language is Spanish, but English is widely used as
well, especially in business.
• What to wear: Weather should be warm, with an occasionally rain. Bring a
suit for the US Embassy briefing and Reception that evening. Other days
will be business casual.
• Medical: Be sure to bring sufficient amount of any prescription drugs you
require. The medical care is excellent and affordable in Costa Rica, but
getting a subscription filled on the move could be inconvenient.
• Flights: Delegates will make and pay for their own flights in and out of
San Jose, Costa Rica.
• Ground transportation: Group movements to and around the Pacific Coast
will be covered and managed by our office in Costa Rica as part of
delegates participation fee.
• Hotels: Delegates are responsible for their own hotel expenses, but we
are working on discounts and other special arrangements. More to come on
this shortly.
• Food: The food is excellent, and the variety is typical of both the US
and Latin countries. Outside of the receptions and the last evening dinner
together, each delegate will cover their own food expenses.
• Cell Phone: Check with your provider to see if your phone and provider
operate in Costa Rica. If not, you can either get a special card for your
phone, or rent a cell phone for the trip.
